Historic York Inn Featured on National Television

The Following press release about the Historic York Inn / Smyser Bair House was issued by the City of York!

HISTORIC YORK HOME FEATURED ON NATIONAL TV

On December 1 at 5 p.m., a historic home in the heart of downtown York’s historic district will be featured on HGTV’s program, If Walls Could Talk: Hidden Treasures.

The home is known by many Yorkers as the Smyser-Bair House. It was owned by Dr. Henry Smyser in the 1800s and passed through his daughter into the Bair family. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the Victorian home was open to the public as The Smyser-Bair House Bed & Breakfast.

Viewers of the program will enjoy seeing some of the treasures hidden inside the home: one-of-a kind, gilded Pier mirrors, the elaborate parlor, an original crystal chandelier converted from candle to electric, a unique gaselier, and a signature in the attic dating back to the 1800s.

The crew came to film the Smyser-Bair House before the current owners purchased the home in December, so the program is already a bit of history itself.

The new owners have plans to reopen the home as a bed and breakfast in the near future. At the moment, they are busy getting the home ready, and promoting their new full-color, hardcover story book for children: Flightless Goose. You can learn more about Flightless Goose at http://www.rungoose.com/.

Look for the reopening of The Historic York Inn – Smyser-Bair House Bed & Breakfast sometime in 2009.

In the meantime, you have the opportunity to catch a glimpse on December 1 at 5 p.m. on HGTV’s If Walls Could Talk: Hidden Treasures.
